MERCEDES STRETCHES LINE-UP

This is an interesting car – the Mercedes-amg GT four-door coupe, a more practical version of the stunning two-door coupe that Merc launched a couple of years ago.

This four-seater will go head to head with Aston Martin’s Rapide four-door while also increasing Mercedes’ already bulging catalogue of high-performance cars.

You’d think that Mercedes had simply taken the GT, stretched it and added a couple of extra doors. Actually, under the skin this version is quite different. While available with the familiar AMG 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, which in the four-door produces 639bhp, this new model is also available with the new straight-six 3.0-litre 435bhp unit. The V8 cars are badged GT 63 S (639bhp) and GT 63 (585bhp), while the sixer is the GT 53.

The current GT is rear-wheel drive only but all versions of the new four-door have Merc’s 4MATIC four-wheel-drive system. We’ll have details of prices and launch date soon.
