Difficult task to Improve home insists expert Lisa

- BY DEMELZA de BURCA

Lisa O’brien ROOM To Improve’s Lisa O’brien has defended a controversial client on last weekend’s show.

Viewers hit out online at Christine, from Dublin, who had a 25-page wish list for her two-bed house.

The IT manager had a €130,000 budget and went head to head with series’ architect Dermot Bannon.

O’brien, the RTE show’s quantity surveyor, said it was a hard project.

She added: “You can see how the costs fire up.

“In fairness to Christine, we hit every snag, drainage issues, structural issues, woodworm, rot.

“She never took the focus off the project that she wanted and in the end she got it.”

Christine was forced to fork out €170,000 on the house that Bannon described as having “notions”.

O’brien said she and Bannon have yet to have a row over a project.

She added: “In fairness Dermot is very budget conscious. Behind the camera we will sit down and he might do up four or five designs and I’ll have to price them.”
