Going Out live

-

BBC1 comedy Not Going Out is set to have a live episode.

The Lee Mack hit, which kicked off its ninth series last night, will follow in the footsteps of Mrs Brown’s Boys and other shows trying to make a live sitcom work when it makes its 10th series in 2019.

Lee, who writes and stars, said: “This is series nine and already we are working on series 10. And we are doing a live one. When I heard other people were doing them, I thought, ‘Why do they bother doing that, it doesn’t aid the quality’. And then they showed me the money and I thought, ‘Why not?’.”

Lee, who also does stand up, added: “I do live stuff but if it goes wrong in the sitcom I can’t go to the guy in the front row ‘Where are you from?’. He shouldn’t be in my front room.”

Fans last night rejoined Lee and Lucy and their kids Charlie, Benji and Molly.

Lucy’s father reluctantly lets Lee help her clear up the builder’s mess in their new kitchen extension – and not everything went to plan.

During series nine, Lee and Lucy will introduce a family pet, thinking it may teach the kids to be responsible. They must be barking...
