JOHN JOE NEVIN believes Alex Torres Rynn won’t last the distance in Philadelphia tonight.
Unbeaten Nevin meets the Mexcio-born lightweight over eight rounds at the Parx Casino in Bensalem targeting a 10th straight win.
Rynn, undefeated after six outings, feels he’s fought better opposition than Nevin so far and, while he respects his amateur career, this fight isn’t over three rounds.
But ‘Mullingar Shuffler’ Nevin has dismissed the comments as the thrash talk that is part and parcel of the professional game.
“I feeling great, just keeping and eye on the weight and losing the last couple of pounds. I’ve been out here (Philadelphia) for the last couple of weeks in training camp,” said Nevin.
“It’s just all talk, let him talk away. It’s part of the pro game. It doesn’t mean a thing to me.
“I can’t see it going to distance. Saying that, I’m going to go in there and if the stoppage comes, it comes. I don’t think he’s good enough really.”
Meanwhile, Tipperary super-heavy Dean Gardiner has been named captain of the Irish team to take on Billy Walsh’s USA in three internationals.
Team Ireland flew out to the USA yesterday ahead of the first match in Boston on Monday. Both nations meet again in Springfield on March 15 and in New Hampshire on March 21.
“I’m looking forward to renewing old friendships and testing ourselves against Ireland around Ireland’s national day which will add to what will already be exciting battles,” said ex Irish head coach Billy
Walsh.
