Scots’ plastic beach shock

-

A REMOTE beach has an estimated 20 tons of plastic washed up on it.

Dr Julien Moreau collected 30 bags in three yards of the 300-yard cove at Scourie, Sutherland, in the Scottish Highlands.

It included 150 bits of net, 10,321 of cord, 1,473 plastic pieces, 108 bottles, 196 crisp or sweet packets, 98 shotgun cartridges and 327 bag ends.

Dr Moreau, of the Plastic At Bay campaign group, said: “It has largely become a plastic beach.”
