The letters A to Z have each been allocated a different number between 1 and 26. The number next to each word in this list is the sum total of the letter values in that word. So, for example, in LIMA, L might equal 20, I 5, M 16 and A 10, or L might equal 13, I 7, M 23 and A 8, or any other combinatio­n adding up to 51.
