Fenn’s joy at Town’s strength

- BY PUAL BUTTNER

NEALE FENN hailed the strength in depth of his squad as Longford Town got their first win of the new campaign on Saturday.

Having scored in their opening 2-2 draw with Cobh Ramblers, Chris Mulhall hit a brace as Town saw off Wexford 3-0 at City Calling Stadium.

Dylan Mcglade made a big impression off the bench with an assist and the midlanders’ third goal.

“Dylan’s got quality, we know that,” said Fenn.

“I was delighted for Chris also. He works hard and knows where the goal is.

“We’ve got players now with quality coming off the bench, as well as in the starting team, who can take the game to teams.

“We hit the post twice and the crossbar and we fully deserved the 3-0 win.”

A first-half strike from Adam O’sullivan gave Cobh Ramblers a 1-0 win at Cabinteely who slumped to a second home defeat.

Shelbourne came from behind to draw 1-1 at Finn Harps in Ballybofey as the home side got their delayed season up and running.

Michael O’connor put Harps in front before Davy O’sullivan levelled just before half-time.

Pre-season favourites Galway United also had to settle for a 1-1 draw at UCD.

Danny Furlong tapped home his fourth goal in two games from Stephen Kenny’s cross to give the Tribesmen a 22nd minute lead.

Defender Josh Collins equalised with a header following a corner just past the half hour mark.

Drogheda United finally kicked of their season with a convincing 6-0 win over bottom side Athlone Town at United Park.

A deflected Jake Hyland shot had Drogheda in front on nine minutes with

Town’s Martin Walshe putting through his own goal on 44 minutes.

Mark Doyle hit a brace, either side of a Colm Deasy strike, with Ciaran Kelly heading a sixth goal in stoppage time to give rookie boss Tim Clancy an emphatic debut win.
