Radio star Tracy tells of struggle with chronic pain
Tracy Clifford 2FM star Tracy Clifford has opened up about her battle with chronic pain and how it led to emergency surgery.
The broadcaster discovered she had one kidney when she was 30 and ended up hospitalised.
Speaking to the RTE Guide Tracy said: “I was going to the doctor for 12 years.
“I knew something was wrong. So I say to people, if you think something is wrong, trust your instinct.”
Every six weeks for 12 years, the 2fm host endured crippling stomach pains that would last for days.
The 37-year old added: “I was told it might be endometritis. I was told it might be polycystic ovary syndrome.
“I was always bent over. My friends were used to seeing me lying on the floor with the pain.”
In the lead-up to the bubbly blonde’s 30th birthday, doctors discovered she was born with only one kidney and it had an abnormal growth on it, which was the cause of her chronic pain.
Thankfully it wasn’t cancer, but it was taking up so much space in her abdomen, Tracy needed emergency surgery.
She added: “Since they removed it, I have been completely and utterly pain free.”
