The mark of Cian is his desire
CIAN LYNCH says it’s vital Limerick kick on from their successful promotion drive with a positive Championship campaign.
The 22-year-old hit a vital late point as John Kiely’s men beat All-ireland and League champs Galway on Sunday to seal promotion to hurling’s top flight for the first time since 2010.
Afterwards he said: “It is about time we started standing up, getting involved, taking it to teams instead of waiting for teams to take it to us. Luckily enough we came out on top here.
“There is no point sitting back enjoying that for the rest of the year. We have to drive on.
“You can see what it means to the Limerick supporters. It has been a long time since Limerick won consistently, won a few games or a big game like that.
“When you are winning or a team is going well, it is nice to see the smiles on the faces and that is what it is about.”
Division 1A hurling will be a new thing for Lynch and his peers, but even the fact that they are the first team to beat Galway in more than 12 months will give them huge confidence.
“We’ll enjoy this,” added Lynch. “Galway are still going to have a massive say in the League and Championship. This is a small step for us. It is about driving on from here.
“It is a huge. The last couple of years, even since I have been on the panel four years ago, we have never had this kind of momentum.
“It is about time we drive on. Whether it is League or Championship, we need to keep tacking on the wins and the performances.”
