Minister is being a bad sport

-

WHEN the country is suffering the worst homelessness crisis in its history the public can take comfort in knowing the hockey pitch at fee-paying Wesley College is to be resurfaced thanks to you.

While the health service might be disintegrating, at least exclusive Malahide Golf Club, which costs just €8,400 to join, will also receive €150,000 courtesy of the taxpayer.

In a week where the number of patients waiting on trolleys broke a new record, mostly because of a lack of funding, it is an utter outrage taxpayers’ money is being handed over to private clubs.

Last Saturday Transport Minister Shane Ross tweeted: “Delighted to confirm that @wesleycollege has been granted €150,000 as part of Sports Capital Programme.”

He want on to say the funding will benefit the school, which just happens to be in the minister’s constituency.

There was no such good fortune for Drimnagh’s Good Counsel GAA and Camogie Club, which was awarded a paltry €624.

The public are only too well aware they live in a skewed society where the State continues to give most to those who need it least so will not be surprised at this latest outrage.

They would do well to remember who Fine Gael and Shane Ross looked after when they come looking for votes in the not too distant future.
