Mum’s plea after three suicide bids by daughter

- BY AMY BELL

A DESPERATE mum is pleading for help for her teenager daughter who wants to end her life.

Ann slammed the Government for the lack of care for minors who are suffering with mental health issues.

The heartbroken mother yesterday told her harrowing story to 98FM’S Adrian Kennedy on the Dublin Talks show.

Ann said her 17-year-old daughter has tried to kill herself three times and has been turned away by A&E just an hour-and-a-half after bringing her in, saying she is safe to go home.

The Dubliner spoke on air about her daughter crushing glass in her hands and wandering to a train station to lie down on the tracks and kill herself.

She said: “Up until a few weeks ago my daughter was a normal 17-year-old – a normal teenager girl in college.

HOSPITAL

“Over the past couple of weeks she has expressed that she wants to die and she has taken action to commit suicide and I know my daughter very well and she has never done this before. I’ve never seen her like this before.”

Ann said her daughter is in hospital but she is not receiving any therapy and that because of her age, she has to sign for everything, even paracetamol.

She added: “I don’t know what is happening. We’re 11 days into this and my daughter still wants to die.”

When asked for a comment, the HSE told the Irish Mirror it cannot comment on individual cases.
