Sess backed to win Madd fight and stay at Fulham

RYAN SESSEGNON is being backed to win the battle of the Championship’s in-demand England Under-21 starlets today.

Fulham ace Sessegnon, 17, is bang in form with 14 goals this term, which saw him make his U-21 debut this week. But so is Norwich’s James Maddison, 21, who has also notched 14 goals.

The pair both played in England U-21’s 2-1 win over Ukraine this week. And they are wanted by big Premier League clubs with Manchester United among Sessegnon’s suitors and Maddison on the radars of both Tottenham and Liverpool.

Norwich have slapped a £30million price on midfielder Maddison and are expected to sell him this summer as they languish in 13th place and their parachute money runs out.

While left-footed defender Sessegnon is expected to be auctioned if Fulham fail to go up.

Fulham’s Czech Republic defender Tomas Kalas said: “It looks like Sessegnon is the best player in the Championship.

“It is going to be a talented player against a talented player and hopefully Ryan is going to win this duel.

“I am glad Ryan is in a team playing football that suits him. He works hard every game, running almost 12km every game, and deserves the positive comments. He has a big future if he keeps on going like that.”

And Kalas, on loan from Chelsea, said Sessegnon could yet end up staying at Fulham if they win promotion this term.

He said: “If we get promoted I don’t know what I would choose. He has a secure position at Fulham and he would be in the Premier League.

“He could stay in the team he is playing for, knowing he will be playing, or go to a team and not know if he is playing or what his position might be.”

JED WALLACE says Tim Cahill is the driving force behind Millwall’s shock play-off charge, even though he has yet to start a game.

Millwall have yet to lose since former Everton star Cahill returned to the New Den in January and winger Wallace said: “Tim joining was only going to be a positive around the place - whether he played a minute or not. I look forward to seeing him celebrate a goal by boxing the corner flag.”
