A Roadtrip to stardom

- By DONAGH CORBY

Since One Direction disbanded there’s a gaping and highly lucrative hole left for the next big boy band.

Step up, British based Roadtrip who also boast an Irish member in their five-piece.

Dublin singer Jack Duff is Roadtrip’s Niall Horan and makes up the band alongside Andy Fowler, Mikey Cobban, Ryan Beaumont and Brooklyn Gibson.

Although flattered by the 1D comparisions the band insist that they are paving their own path in the music industry.

“I think every single band that has four or five members will be compared to whoever was on top before,” Fowler told The Beat.

“What we’re aiming for is that in a few years time, when the next crop of boybands come around, people are comparing them to Roadtrip.

“We’re not interested in comparisons. We know what we do, we know that we bring something different to the table... We don’t take ourselves too seriously and that has come across with our fanbase.”

Duff joined the band to complete their line-up in 2016, and celebrated his latest homecoming in a packed out Academy.

“I love playing here [in Dublin]. It’s weird and very different when you play in your hometown. It’s sick and I really love it.”

The lads’ quick visit to Ireland came after spending a week in Los Angeles, that included filming a music video in the infamous Team 10 house, home of controversial Youtube star Jake Paul.

But they remained tight-lipped about the exact details of their trip, and whether or not they’ll be pursuing a relationship with the social media mogul, who has amassed upwards of 20 million followers through his various social media accounts.

Ryan Beaumont also promised a follow-up to their two self-penned EPS in the coming months, saying “We’ve got a free week coming up soon where we’re going to really crack down and write some new songs.”
