Frank Murray FRANK Murray, who worked to establish the burial of the Disappeared, was an exceptional public servant, the Taoiseach said yesterday.

Leo Varadkar was leading tributes to the ex commissioner who died suddenly on Saturday.

He said: “Frank Murray was an exceptional public servant. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the Civil Service and I want to acknowledge his many years of loyal service to many governments.

“In particular, I also want to acknowledge the professionalism and sensitivity he brought to his work over the past number of years at the Independent Commission.

“He was also a proud Leitrim man who never forgot his roots.”

Mr Murray, who was in his late 70s, had been co-commissioner of the Independent Commission for the Location of Victims’ Remains for more than a decade.

He served on the ICLVR alongside Sir Ken Bloomfield, who said Ireland had lost a “great man”.

He added: His distinguished career in the Irish Civil Service was in itself notable but in our joint efforts to recover remains he did his utmost to ensure a Christian burial, however belated, for many grieving relatives.” A SECOND man has been arrested over the death of a 10-year-old boy in a suspected hit-and-run in Tenerife.

The family of Carter Junior Carson, from Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, will hear today when they’ll be able to take him home.

Spain’s Interior Minister Juan Ignacio Zoido said yesterday: “Police have arrested two men over their alleged links to the fatal running-over of a boy in Tenerife.

“Once again the public’s help has been fundamental. Thanks for all your help.”

Carter was on holiday with dad Stuart and his partner Clair when he was hit by a car on Thursday. He died from his injuries on Friday.

A vehicle believed to have been involved was found abandoned a few miles from the scene.

Stuart told the Mirror: “Carter was our world, with a smile that touched so many hearts.

“He was a football-crazy kid whose loss we can’t describe. We would like to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for their support, kind words and generosity.”

Family and friends have raised close to €10,000 to help bring the schoolboy home and cover funeral costs.

TENERIFE YESTERDAY PRAYERS

Councillor Noreen Mcclelland said: “Everyone is thinking and praying for them at this difficult time.”

In a tribute to the P5 pupil, Abbots Cross Primary School said in a statement: “The whole school community is deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Carter Carson.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his immediate and wider family circle at this tragic time.

“He loved a game of football and was an enthusiastic member of our school running club and our football club.

“He was recently awarded star pupil of the month and no one had a bigger smile than Carter when he received his award.

“The relevant agencies are working with the school to ensure appropriate support is put in place for our pupils, parents and teachers as we try to deal with losing Carter in these tragic circumstances.”

Newtownabbey Youth Football Club, where Carter played football since he was five, posted on Facebook: “It is with deepest condolences and heavy hearts we are saddened to hear of the tragic passing of young Carter Carson this morning.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his friends at the club. YNWA.”

Carson suffered head injuries and chest wounds which affected his right lung.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are providing assistance to the family following the tragic death.”
