Armed police at raid house POLICE may have stopped a terror attack against a leisure complex when they arrested a father and son in midnight raids on two homes.

Dozens of armed police were involved in the operation and are thought to have used smoke bombs as they entered the properties in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.

A man of 21 was arrested in a detached house in the Savile Town area and a man of 52 in a bungalow in the same road, both on suspicion of planning acts of terror.

A source said: “It is believed police have been investigating a plot on a leisure complex in the UK.”

A North East Counter Terrorism unit spokeswoman said: “We can neither confirm nor deny any speculation about alleged targets.”

A resident who witnessed the raid on the detached house said: “There was an almighty bang at midnight and I thought there had been a gas explosion. My house actually shook. I saw reddish smoke. A policeman was pointing a big gun at the house. A light was shining on it. He shouted, ‘Come out. Come out’. A young man was led out with his hands behind his back.” The second raid was on a bungalow at the other end of Headfield Road. Neighbours said the house had been targeted by police before. Mamona Hussain, 41, said: “This is a lovely road, apart from across there. There were boys shooting guns one time.”
