PAIR ACCUSED OF MURDER BID FACING NEW CHARGES

Men remanded in custody over kill plot

- BY TOM TUITE

MORE charges were yesterday brought against two men already facing trial for conspiracy to murder.

Dubliners Alan Wilson, Luke Wilson, Liam Brannigan and Joseph Kelly are accused of a plot to kill Gary Hanley.

Alan Wilson and Kelly face two fresh charges of conspiracy to murder at a north inner city pub between September 11 and 15 last year.

Det Garda Brian Johnson of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau told Judge Victor Blake he put the new offence to Alan Wilson on Tuesday and he “made no reply after caution”.

Det Garda John Rourke told Cloverhill District Court that Joseph Kelly also “made no reply to the charge”.

Defence lawyers had complained about delays in the case and asked the judge to strike matters out as their clients had been in custody since last autumn.

Alan Wilson, 39, from New Street Gardens, and 37-year-old Liam Brannigan, from Bride Street, were first charged between September 15 and November 6.

Joseph Kelly, 35, from Kilworth Road, Drimnagh, and Luke Wilson, 23, from Cremona Road in Ballyfermot, were also accused of conspiracy to murder Mr Hanley. They also face charges for possession of a Beretta handgun and 15 rounds of ammunition with intent to endanger life in Fairview.

Alan Wilson and Kelly were remanded in custody to appear again in one week with a book of evidence yet to be completed. A lawyer said the new charges will travel along with the existing ones and the court heard the defendants will face trial on indictment.

Judge Blake refused to strike out the charges.

Luke Wilson and Brannigan were further remanded in custody to appear again in two weeks to be served with books of evidence.

Mr Durkan told the court that some of the delay was a result of needing to obtain the authorisation granted by three Garda superintendents for surveillance.

The defendants have not yet indicated how they will plead.
