Los Angeles based electro composer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith has released at least one LP a year since 2015.

Famed for her organic sounds using a Buchla 100 Series Synthesize­r, Smith’s critically­acclaimed latest record The Kid is her sixth offering and stands apart as her most accessible to date.

We caught up with Smith ahead of her debut Irish show in Dublin’s Sugar Club on April 10.

The Beat: What’s new?

Smith: I started a label/ imprint Touchthepl­ants which is an encouragin­g multidisci­plinary creative environmen­t. The platform grows with and for diverse artists dedicated to the joy of storytelli­ng and exploring the spirit through music and visual arts.

The Beat: What has been your best gig so far?

Smith: I love every single one for its unique energy – I dont have a favorite. They are all very special to me.

The Beat: Tell us about your new/ latest record?

Smith: Seperate from my normal album cycles, Electronic Series will be an annual offering, and each volume will consist of a musical recording, accompanie­d by an episodic existentia­l comic book about two friends – a plant and a human being. Each volume will focus on a different theme and context. (he theme of the first volume is “abstractio­ns” - based on a harry everett smith silent film.

The Beat: Describe your music in one sentence. Smith: Intended to awaken the heart. The Beat: What are you listening to at the moment? Smith: Laraaji - Essence/ universe.

The Beat: What has been your favourite moment as a musician?

Smith: I appreciate each moment and try not have favorites. I look for something to learn in each moment.

The Beat: What’s in store for you for the rest of 2018? Smith: Researchin­g, listening, writing, exploring, sharing.
