Jesus: We’re still the business

- BY DAVID MCDONNELL

GABRIEL JESUS says City cannot allow three straight defeats to overshadow their campaign.

City exited the Champions League to Liverpool after two defeats to Jurgen Klopp’s side either side of a 3-2 derby loss to Manchester United which prolonged Pep Guardiola’s wait for the title.

But Jesus said City, who have six games left in the Premier League and are closing in on the title, cannot afford to let their first rocky patch undo all the good work they have done this term, which has also seen them win the League Cup.

“It’s difficult because the last three defeats, unfortunately, overshadow what we’ve been doing all season,” Jesus said.

“We must keep our heads up because we weren’t knocked out playing badly.

“We were knocked out by a great team and a great club. Congratulate them again because they deserved it. It’s difficult. We started the game losing 3-0, but after scoring the first goal at the beginning, unfortunately we had a goal disallowed.

“It could have changed the game, who knows? But now we must focus on the last part of the Premier League to wrap up the title.”

Despite City’s dismay at going out, Jesus, who scored the opener before Liverpool came back to win 2-1 on Tuesday and 5-1 on aggregate, said they should have no regrets.

“Nobody likes to lose and we’re disappointed especially because it’s a knockout competition,” he said.

“But this is football, these things happen. We must keep our heads up.

“We have no regrets and we don’t have time to regret either.

“In football, you don’t have time for that, as we have another great game on Saturday

“Football is exciting and often it doesn’t give you the time to feel very happy or very sad. You can turn the page of the last game quickly in your next game.

“We have to rest and then start focusing on Saturday to try to produce a good performance and fight for the win”
