TOO LOUD? I REALLY DOUBT IT!

- BY CHRIS HATHERALL

Crystal Palace Brighton Premier League, today, 3pm

v BRIGHTON keeper Matt Ryan has told Crystal Palace fans he won’t be freaked by the atmosphere at Selhurst Park – because he’s handled playing in Besiktas.

Palace’s ‘ultras’ are ready to crank up the volume today as they face their bitter derby rivals in what is a relegation six-pointer.

They are still fuming after the way some Palace fans were treated by police and stewards earlier in the season when the teams drew 0-0 at the Amex Stadium.

Manager Chris Hughton and his men, who are four points and four places above their rivals in the Premier League in 13th place, can expect a hot reception when they arrive in south London.

But keeper Ryan said: “It certainly won’t worry me. I remember playing in a Europa League game away for Bruges in Besiktas in Turkey – and that was an atmosphere.

“To describe it in words is hard – but I guess deafening is the one you’d use! There were 70,000 fans and I think we had a contingent of 500. There was 40,000 there just for the warm-up.

“Their stadium has one of the highest decibel readings in world football and that night will stay a long time in my memory.

“I can’t tell you how Selhurst Park will compare because I haven’t experienced the derby there before, although I have played there in a pre-season match so I know it’s a tight ground.

“But it’s not something the players are speaking about too much. It’s only going to create an extra buzz for us.”

Brighton know victory over their deadly rivals would all but ensure Premier League survival – but defeat could see them dragged into the relegation battle.
