Temps set to drop to 10C just days after weekend heatwave
AN Icelandic chill is being blamed for bringing a springtime frost to Ireland just days after a heatwave.
The country enjoyed highs of 20C at the weekend but temperatures are set to plummet as low as 10C later this week.
Met Eireann said: “It will turn a bit cooler from Wednesday onwards as winds turn westerly, bringing typical April weather with sunshine and showers for the second half of the week.
“The showers will become widespread and heavy during the afternoons and evenings. Temperatures will be closer to average – between 10C and 13C.
“Towards the end of the night-time frost becomes likely.”
In a post on its website, the national forecaster added: “Monday will start off dry in many areas. However, rain will week develop in the west early in the morning and will spread eastwards to all areas by early afternoon.
“It will gradually clear through the late afternoon and evening with sunny spells following. Highest temperatures of 12C to 15C with moderate to fresh south-west winds.”
The cold air from the north-west will cause conditions to change next week with cooler temperatures set to last until the weekend.
It is predicted lows in single figures overnight could cause widespread frost in Ireland. And UK forecasters are even predicting snow in places.
