Pep’s ruthless champions cruise onto 102 goals and the brink of a win record and condemn West Ham to a survival battle

THEY are chasing records and do not care about the trail of destructio­n left in their wake.

Manchester City destroyed West Ham, totally humiliated them and dragged them back into the relegation dogfight in the process.

Pep Guardiola’s imperious champions now require one win to overtake Chelsea’s record haul of 95 points and one goal to equal Chelsea’s record tally of 103 goals.

City only need to beat Huddersfie­ld, Brighton or Southampto­n to set a new record of most wins, and Guardiola said: “We have the chance to be the best team in Premier League history.”

This City team deserves to write their own chapter in the record books – but West Ham are a club heading towards the abyss.

They have now conceded 67 goals, more than any other side in the Premier League.

With three games to go, they are in genuine danger of going down.

Following a trip up the M1 to Leicester on Saturday, come home games against Manchester United and Everton. Playing like this, it is hard to see them picking up another win.

And can you just imagine Big Sam sending them down on May 13?

David Moyes’ men were a shambles defensivel­y, while City enjoyed 75 per cent possession and Aaron Cresswell’s goal was the home side’s solitary shot on target.

Had City not eventually turned proceeding­s into a training exercise, West Ham would have suffered an even bigger defeat.

As it is, the Hammers have an inferior goal difference to Southampto­n, who are three points behind and in the relegation zone with a run-in featuring Everton at home with Swansea away to follow.

City could have gone through the motions having won the title but Guardiola’s standards are such that he would never allow it.

Raheem Sterling stole the show with a superb man-ofthe-match performanc­e, three assists and pace that terrorised his opponents.

The England winger simply had too much for West Ham.

They could not handle his movement or quality – even though Moyes set up with a back five.
