HOOLAHAN IN TEARS AT HIS BIG SEND-OFF

- BY IAN BAKER

WES HOOLAHAN was in tears after marking his Carrow Road farewell with a goal.

The midfielder, 35, is leaving Norwich after a decade and he cancelled out Kalvin Phillips’ opener before Josh Murphy scored the winner.

Hoolahan (above) said: “There were a few tears. It’s been an emotional week getting lovely messages. I’ve been here a long time and you get attached to people.

“Knowing that I won’t step out at Carrow Road again for the club in a league game was emotional and it couldn’t have gone better.

“The send-off, with everyone coming up to me, was very emotional. It was a fantastic day. I said to the boys in the huddle that it doesn’t count unless we win and the boys win the 50-50 battles – they played brilliantly.

“It was nice to get the goal. There was a bit of luck involved, but I was delighted to see it go in the back of the net.

“It took for ever and it hit the post and crawled across and I thought it was staying out, but I think 27,000 fans roared it in!”

Leeds boss Paul Heckingbottom launched a scathing attack on his players afterwards.

He said: “Everyone has tough moments in this league, but character and drive gets you through those moments and that is what we have not had.

“What it’s given me is how certain I am in terms of what has to change. I’ll argue my point with anyone because I know I’m right.”
