CHAMPION LEO DOES THE TRICK

- BY IAN BAKER

LIONEL MESSI’S hat-trick clinched the La Liga title for Barcelona in a 4-2 win at Deportivo La Coruna.

Barca looked to be cruising when Philippe Coutinho and Messi (celebrating with Jordi

Alba, above) put Barca two goals up after 38 minutes but Lucas Perez and Emre Colak scored either side of half-time to level.

Messi had the final say, though, netting twice in the final 10 minutes as Barca moved an unassailable 11 points clear of closest rivals Atletico Madrid, while Deportivo’s relegation was confirmed.

This is Barca’s third league title in four seasons, and seventh in 10, confirmed one week after regaining the Copa del Rey by hammering Sevilla 5-0.

Atletico warmed up for their Europa League semifinal second leg against Arsenal with a 1-0 victory over Alaves thanks to a penalty by Kevin Gameiro.

Former Liverpool and Chelsea striker Fernando Torres had a 71st-minute spot-kick saved but Gameiro scored from another penalty seven minutes later.

Gareth Bale and Borja Mayoral were on target for Real Madrid ahead of their Champions League semifinal second leg against Bayern Munich in a 2-1 victory over Leganes.

Real are 2-1 up from the first leg in Germany and boss Zinedine Zidane wants them to put a disappointing league season behind them.

He said: “It’s our game of the year and the supporters know it.”

FC Twente have suffered a shock relegation from the Dutch Eredivisie just eight years after winning the title under Steve Mcclaren.

Their fate was sealed as they were hammered 5-0 at Vitesse.
