Quick One With Louis Baker

-

New Zealand songwriter Louis Baker is gearing up for the release of his new album with a series of shows.

The singer has just dropped the first track Black Crow from the forthcoming album which he said is about “exorcising your demons, leaving the past behind and gaining wisdom through experience.”

The soulful singer heads to the UK and Europe for a 16 date tour, including a headline show in London which sold out within weeks of the announcement.

The Beat: Tell us about your new/latest record

Louis: Black Crow is released on May 3, and is all about shaking off your negativity. It was produced by Steve Rusch (Solange, Miguel) and was one of those songs that sort of fell out of me. We wrote and recorded it in six hours.

The Beat: What has been your best gig so far?

Louis: Hard to say, there have been so many fun shows. Maybe Sziget Festival in Hungary.

The Beat: Describe your music in one sentence.

Louis: Emotively soul induced

The Beat: What are you listening to at the moment?

Louis: UMO, Nick Hakim, Prince, Daniel Caesar, Tom Misch

The Beat: What Irish acts do you rate?

Louis: I guess it’s hard to go past U2. ‘With or Wothout You’ is without a doubt one of my all-time favourite songs.

What has been your favourite moment as a musician?

Meeting my manager. We are a great team, and I am fortunate to have her on this journey with me.

What’s in store for you for the rest of 2018?

Lots on. Touring Australia, UK, EU and New Zealand and releasing a new record later this year.
