VICKY PHELAN THANKS THOSE BEHIND MEETING

VICKY Phelan has shared a photo of the amazing moment her daughter Amelia met her idol Ed Sheeran at his concert.

The mum of two helped make the dream come true at Cork’s Pairc Ui Chaoimh when she asked the Ray D’arcy show if there was any way they could lend a hand.

She took to Twitter to share a photo of 12-year-old Amelia grinning with the red-haired singer, writing: “And this happened yesterday.

“My daughter, Amelia, met her idol, Ed Sheeran.

“A massive shout out to my new BFF Will Hanafin and Radio Ray RTE for organising this for Amelia.”

Quoting Sheeran, she added: “We are ‘keeping this love in a photograph’.”

One well-wisher commented: “A precious moment of joy in the midst of all the mayhem and sadness. Thank you for your voice and your selfless determination”. While another said: “Aw, I’m so delighted for Amelia. Just deadly.”

After being awarded a €2.5million settlement against a US laboratory over a wrong smear test result which resulted in her developing cancer going undetected, Vicky said the money would go towards treatment and looking after her children Amelia and seven-yearold Darragh. After the High Court case concluded, she said: “There are no winners here today, I am terminally ill and there is no cure for my cancer.

“My settlement will mostly be spent on buying me time and on paying for clinical trials to keep me alive and to allow me to spend more time with my children.

“If I die, I truly hope that won’t be the case, the money will provide for my family.”

Meanwhile, more than 11,000 women have used a HSE helpline in the 10 days since the Cervicalcheck scandal broke.

It was also revealed three-quarters of those who have called the helpline as had yet to receive a response.

In 10 days 11,046 people contacted the service in the wake of what is being described as the HSE’S worst scandal.

More than 7,600 of those who rang asked for a call back but the HSE has only been able to return 2,686 calls.

Priority is being given to women with specific clinical queries or a history of cervical cancer.
