Police nearby OFFICERS in the UK were locked in a stand-off with a gunman after trading shots with him yesterday.

Three streets in Oxford were shut and flats evacuated, while one person was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were alerted to a man with a firearm in Paradise Square at 1.15pm.

Shots were fired from a property and police returned fire before negotiating with the gunman.

Superintendent Joe Kidman said the incident was “contained” and not being treated as terrorism.

He said there was an increased police presence in the city yesterday.

A woman who asked not to be named said she heard “three spurts” of fire.

The stand-off was still going on last night. Ryan O’shaughnessy performs in semi-final rehearsal in Lisbon IRISH holidaymakers were forced to wait for hours in stifling heat at Portugal’s Faro airport amid chaotic scenes at passport control.

A massive queue built up in front of just two checkers who were overwhelmed by the number of travellers trying to get through.

Chaos broke out as some people tried to jump the queue with others revealing on social media they feared they might be crushed.

RTE star Brenda Donohoe was among the Irish passengers caught up in the chaos on Saturday night.

She tweeted: “Unbelievable scenes at @faroairport as it looks like passport control operators have gone on a lightening strike. His backing dancers Safety issues here as hundreds are in a cramped queue for one guy to check all the passport! No security, no air conditioning and no explanation.”

There are fears the scenes will be repeated this week at Portugal’s airports due to Lisbon hosting the Eurovision Song Contest.
