Trump sees 3 freed from north Korea

May ‘sorry’ for uk role in rendition

- ANDY LINES

DONALD Trump yesterday welcomed three Americans jailed in North Korea back to the US, after their release by Kim Jong-un.

Kim Dong-chul, Tony Kim and Kim Hak-song were flanked by the US President and First Lady, Melania Trump, as they got off their plane in Washington. The trio had been in labour camps.

Landing at Andrews Air Force Base, they said being home was “like a dream”.

Mr Trump said: “We want to thank Kim Jong-un, who really was excellent to these three incredible people.”

And he confirmed that he would meet the despot in Singapore on June 12.

Mr Trump added: “I think we have a good chance of doing something very meaningful.” THERESA May yesterday apologised “unreservedly” for Britain’s role in the abduction, rendition and torture of a Libyan dissident by Colonel Gadaffi’s regime.

The Prime Minister issued the unprecedented apology to Abdel Hakim Belhaj and his wife Fatima Boudcha for their “appalling” experience.

Following dictator Gadaffi’s overthrow it emerged British intelligence officers played a key role in the 2004 kidnap.

Pregnant Ms Boudchar was freed before giving birth but her husband, 52, was held for six years. He said he was quizzed by British agents.

He did not seek monetary compensation but his wife will receive €560,000.

Mrs May wrote to them: “We are profoundly sorry.”
