YOU BRIT BASHER

Dup slams tanaiste Coveney for Brexit border trade bid to ‘break up the uk’

- BY DAVID YOUNG

THE Tanaiste has been accused by an MP of “Brit bashing”.

The Democratic Unionist Party’s Sammy Wilson said Simon Coveney was “belligerent” and that he was using Brexit as an “excuse to break up the UK”.

His comments came after the Foreign Minister dismissed the idea of using high-tech cameras and drones at the border.

Mr Coveney claimed it would put the Good Friday Agreement at risk and a seamless border was the only answer.

He told the BBC: “This is not just a trading issue, this is about Ireland moving forward, communities and neighbours living together. We are trying to be helpful so we can get beyond where we are now – which is stuck.

“It would be helpful if the UK Government had a consensus around this concept.” However, Mr Wilson said: “The belligerent, interfering, Brit-bashing foreign minister of Simon Coveney Mick sups a Guinness at cricket game the Irish Republic has once again taken to the airwaves to demand the break-up of the UK using the impact of Brexit on the border between Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic.

“The fact is the border issues can all be dealt with by technology but Coveney and co have stuck their heads in the sand refusing to even consider this solution because it doesn’t suit his aggressive Republican agenda. He tried to flog his ‘pig in a poke’ solution to the EU negotiators and force it down the UK government’s throat.

“It wont work. The IRA failed to dislodge Northern Ireland from the UK with bombs, Coveney won’t do it with Brexit.

“The UK always has the option to walk away from negotiations with no deal.

“That would set the cat among the pigeons as far as the Irish economy is concerned because most of their exports to the UK would face huge tariffs.

“The import substitution which would result would massively benefit Northern Ireland agriculture and food processing.” THREE out of four of them may be in their 70s, but the Rolling Stones showed they will Not Fade Away as they touched down in Dublin yesterday.

Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood will be asking fans to Spend The Night Together as they kick off their No Filter tour at Croke Park stadium on Thursday.

After arriving in the city singer Mick enjoyed watching Ireland’s Test match against Pakistan at Malahide.

And he’s sure to have fans under his thumb as he bowls them over on Thursday.
