- BY CILLIAN O’BRIEN

Dina Collins ONE of two dogs that savaged three young girls on Sunday was still on the loose yesterday.

Locals believe the animals were deliberately dumped at the entrance to the Avila Park halting site and housing estate in Finglas, North Dublin.

Katelynn Collins and Dina Collins, both aged 12, and Katelynn’s 18-year-old sister Helen were hospitalised with bad bites suffered during the attack.

Witnesses said a female driver in a black car drove up to Avila Park and let the dogs loose at around 1.30pm on Sunday.

Irish Mirror readers took to Facebook to express their shock at the attack.

Mary O’shea wrote: “That’s awful, glad the injuries weren’t worse.

“The poor girls must

Katelynn Collins have been terrified, whoever dumped the dogs should be jailed.”

Leanne Scott posted: “Awful, hope they recover – bad owners not bad dogs. Owners should be jailed.”

And Lorraine Cummins wrote: “Ongoing, that’s dreadful I hope they catch that other dog.”

Families in the area were celebrating First Communions and said the toll could have been worse if more children were outside.

One of the dogs was cornered in a garden and was removed by a warden.

It is hoped the dog is microchipped so its owner can be traced.

Gardai confirmed yesterday investigations were ongoing.
