690 , 000 IN TUNE WITH EUROVISION
RTE reveals half of viewers saw Ryan perform
NEARLY 700,000 Irish people tuned in to this year’s Eurovision final, it has been revealed.
RTE yesterday confirmed an average audience of 690,000 switched on to watch the competition on Saturday night.
Viewers saw Dubliner Ryan O’shaughnessy perform his song Together – the first Irish entry to make it through to the final stage of the competition since 2013.
More than half (52%) of all people watching TV at that time were tuned in to Eurovision.
The peak minute from the live broadcast was during the results at 11.09pm when just over one million people watching. This year’s Eurovision crown went to Israeli entry Netta with her song Toy, while O’shaughnessy was 16th.
The song contest was also a massive draw for RTE online, with the broadcaster revealing there were 68,749 live streams of the show on the RTE Player on Saturday.
A total of 88% of the live streams on Saturday were domestic. Meanwhile, O’shaughnessy is set to make his way home from Lisbon to Dublin tomorrow. He said his score doesn’t reflect the impact Ireland’s performance had on the iconic competition.
He added: “We just felt such an amazing vibe and I think that was the most important aspect of our performance – that we were all so well connected.” ONE TO WATCH
