TV presenter Pamela Flood has said she and her husband are “rock solid” after facing tough times during the recession.

The star of RTE cookery series Healthy Appetite – married to highprofile restaurateur Ronan Ryan – revealed the economic crash hit both their careers shortly after they started dating.

The former Miss Ireland said the experience brought them closer and they now run their own restaurant together.

The couple have a son and two daughters – Harrison, seven, Elsie, four, and twoyear-old Gracie.

Dubliner Pamela told this week’s TV Now: “We had to work very hard at keeping it all together.

“It was very difficult and it put a lot of pressure on both of us and it wasn’t easy for the first year or two, it really wasn’t.

“And then Harrison came along and a baby is going to do one of two things – gel you together or push you apart and it just happened for us.

“I’d say we are as rock solid as a couple can be and please god he’s the man I grow old with. And I do think if you have been through tough times as a unit it can only make you stronger because whatever you have to face in the rest of life you are kind of equipped for it.

“The small things, you don’t let them get to you.”

The former Off The Rails presenter was meant to come out of retirement with a TV3 documentary series about older mothers.

But the project stalled when the TV station was taken over by Virgin Media. Pamela said: “No one’s ever said emphatically no, it just got shelved. I am disappointed. There are so many questions people want to know so maybe it will happen.”

“In the whole of Europe, Ireland is older than every other country having babies and we all understand the reasons – there is so much pressure to get on the property ladder, get that career.

“I didn’t meet the right person until I was almost 37. So we didn’t get together till then and that’s just how life worked out for me.

“I think financially I would have been in a position long before to have children but, again, you have to be with the right person at the right time.”
