AISEOLAS STAR IS ON RISE

Filly to show she’s Stakes level

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

THE progressive Aiseolas can continue her rise up the ranks with victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Fillies Race as Killarney’s May Festival draws to a close tonight.

The Jim Bolger inmate has improved with every run this season and posted a wide margin victory in a Gowran maiden last Wednesday.

Aiseolas is dropping back slightly in trip but that won’t be a problem for the daughter of Vocalised who chased home the smart Jewel Maker over seven furlongs earlier in the month.

Her last couple of efforts would suggest she can hold her own at Stakes level and she can deal with the threat posed by High Street Lady.

AJ Martin’s charge followed up a good debut run with a maiden success at Dundalk in March where she was two lengths too strong for the subsequent winner Drapers Guild. She looks an above average type.

Willie Mullins can continue his red-hot run of form by landing the last two races on the card and the champion National Hunt trainer can strike first with Scarpeta.

This five-year-old was a capable staying handicapper on the flat in Britain before joining Mullins and he has since done well over hurdles.

His form over timber in recent months includes a terrific fourth to Samcro at Cheltenham. He may well be a better horse than when he last ran on the flat which makes him a likely winner.

A potentially dangerous rival for Scarpeta is Denham Sound. He didn’t make much impression in two flat outings for Charles Byrnes last season but a much improved showing here wouldn’t surprise.

The Mullins-trained Law Girl is put forward in the concluding conditions race where she makes her first appearance since October.

She struggled in some fair races after winning a maiden hurdle at Roscommon in July but a switch back to the flat could suit as she was a decent type on the level in France.

In the opener, Elysian Plains is hard to look past following his very encouraging debut third to Coeur Sublime at Navan last month.

That form received a boost at Leopardstown on Sunday when the runnerup, Southern France, ran out a smooth winner of a mile and a half maiden.
