JOY AS POPE PLANS

THE founder of a homeless shelter has told of his joy after it was confirmed Pope Francis will visit during his trip to Ireland.

The pontiff will see first-hand the work being carried out at the Capuchin Day Centre in Bow Street, Dublin, on August 25.

Brother Kevin Crowley said they have already had security people from Rome check the centre out.

He told Newstalk: “I’m so delighted, and I think it’s absolutely fantastic, that none other than Pope Francis himself is arriving to Capuchin Day Centre.

“He will be arriving on the first day he is here on the Saturday.

“I think that’s a huge, huge honour for the people in need, and for the homeless people. Archbishop [Diarmuid Martin] is really responsibl­e for that, and I’m so thankful.

“I think it’s fabulous he’s giving such precious time to the homeless people.

“I’m not surprised by that, because everywhere he went he made a special effort to be involved with the poor.
