Christmas came early for Cadden

- BY MICHAEL GANNON

STEPHEN ROBINSON has revealed Chris Cadden will be like a kid at Christmas after receiving the perfect present of a Scotland call up on the eve of the Scottish Cup final.

The Motherwell boss believes the midfielder will be on a high at Hampden tomorrow thanks to Alex Mcleish drafting the 21-year-old in to the squad for Peru and Mexico.

Robbo wants his star man to shine against Celtic and fire the Steelmen to silverware ahead of setting out with Scotland.

He said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Chris. His enthusiasm just rubs off on everybody. He’s one of the lads we’ve brought through and he gives Motherwell Football Club its identity.

“He’s like a young boy on Christmas Day going in to the final.

“It don’t mean that to his detriment and he’s nervous. I mean it’s the excitement to be part of it. Hopefully he can show how talented he is on the day.

“Can it give him a boost? Absolutely. Motherwell don’t get many players called up for international squad for the club itself and for the individuals, it’s probably the highest honour in the game.”

Northern Irishman Robinson has raved about his man all season and he’s convinced Cadden can steal the show tomorrow and secure a regular role.

He said: “I remember Laurie Sanchez took a so-called scratch side away for one of these summer tournaments and it turned out to be the start of something special for Northern Ireland.

“They’ve got the shirt and it’s real chance for Chris to stake a claim when others are not there.”
