Procession drills ensure military precision on day

TROOPS had a dry run of the wedding procession yesterday to prepare for their roles on the big day.

Harry and Meghan will ride in.

It travelled from St George’s

Chapel past shops and houses before returning to Windsor

Castle along the Long Walk.

Some 250 members of the armed forces will take part, from regiments former Blues and Royals Captain Harry has a close relationship with.

Members of the Household Cavalry, Harry’s former regiment, will form the Captain’s Escort for the couple’s Ascot Landau carriage, and they could be seen practising yesterday.

The Cavalry, famed for their plumed helmets, left, will also be lining the steps of St George’s Chapel when the bride and groom arrive and depart.

Commanding officer of the Household Cavalry, Lieutenant Colonel James Gaselee, has said: “It is really important for us (to be involved) because he served with us at Windsor, and he still wears our uniform on a regular basis.”

Personnel from the Royal Marines, 3 Regiment Army Air Corps, Royal Navy Small Ships and Diving, the Royal Gurkha Rifles, the 1st Battalion Irish Guards and RAF Honington will also be taking part. Armed police have also been patrolling Windsor as part of the tight-knit security operation.
