The Beat: What’s new?

Yoda: I’m in the studio, finishing up my 4th album, and I’ve just had two Cornetto’s in a row.

The Beat: What has been your best gig so far?

Yoda: Really difficult to narrow it down to one show after over 20 years. But the ones that stand out are when I get to travel to interesting and far-flung places like China, South Africa or Brazil.

The Beat: Tell us about your latest record?

Yoda: I’ve taken a very different turn musically, I think it will surprise some people. I’ve put a lot of effort and time in, and I feel like that’s reflected in the music. I’m very excited about it.

The Beat: Describe your music in one sentence.

Yoda: Expect the unexpected. With scratching and stuff.

The Beat: What are you listening to at the moment?

Yoda: Roc Marciano, Evidence, Childish Gambino, Janelle Monae, to name a few.

The Beat: What acts do you rate?

Yoda: Joel Culpepper, Eva Lazarus, Sons of Kemet, to name a few.

The Beat: What has been your favourite moment as a DJ ?

Yoda: Djing for the cast of Star Wars and George Lucas.

The Beat: What’s in store for you for the rest of 2018?

Yoda: Album, album, album!
