BODY LANGUAGE
THE signals Harry and Meghan displayed show they are two feisty individuals strengthened by their love and affection for one another.
Unlike William and Kate, who adopted body mirroring to suggest two peas in a pod, Harry and Meghan’s signals remained complimentary.
They adopt different facial expressions, smiles and use different types of waves, revealing two very individual thinkers bound by love.
This suggests a lively, sparky relationship. Intense eye-gazing was led by Meghan who has the confidence and TV experience to perform extended bouts of intimate eye contact. It is more a US trait than a UK one. We tend to be more diffident. During the vows, she used it to signal reassurance and endorsement.
Harry’s response was to dip his head and meet the gaze. It enabled the couple to create a tie-sign – a strong non-verbal communication.
When Harry stepped into the carriage, the signals of enjoyment and relaxation increased as he sat with his legs splayed to signal confidence and power.
Meghan’s strength and confidence helped Harry through the service, but in the carriage she tended to lean on him as though recognising the increase of strength and status.
Although she also placed one hand over his in a familiar gesture of reassurance, just in case.
