Put focus on solution for border

-

THE strength of opposition to put up cameras on the border after Brexit was made clear yesterday.

One in 10 Catholics in the North would support smashing these and if a similar poll was conducted here there is every chance that the numbers advocating such actions would be even greater.

The fact law-abiding people would even contemplate supporting acts of vandalism clearly shows there is huge opposition to placing security infrastructure along the frontier never mind putting in place a hard border.

The reality is the overwhelming majority of people on both sides of the border are happy with the status quo and have a genuine fear of a return to the past.

This is borne out in this survey which revealed people in the North would vote even more strongly to remain in the EU if they had the chance to vote again.

The public, especially people living in border counties, are angry this situation has been forced on them by the Tory Government.

The Irish border question was never even raised in the run-up to the Brexit referendum and it would remain off the table if not for the pressure being exerted on the British Government by this country and the EU.

It is high time London faced up to the mess of their own making and realise there is no technical solution.
