A GREAT IKEA
Dublin store second busiest in the world with 3.6m shoppers
THE IKEA store in Dublin is the chain’s second busiest outlet in the world, it has been revealed.
A total of 3.6 million shoppers filed through its door in Ballymun, North Dublin, last year.
The store’s home decoration department was ranked second and the lighting section third across the group for sales.
A spokeswoman also confirmed the firm is considering expanding its operations here.
She said: “IKEA is committed to growing and investing in Ireland.
“We are always looking for opportunities and are investigating the potential for a second store in the market, specifically in Cork.
“However, we have no confirmed plans for the development of an IKEA store at the The IKEA store in North Dublin moment.” The Swedish-owned firm confirmed yesterday the Dublin outlet was ninth in terms of sales in its 355-strong network spread across 29 countries.
Those ranked higher include stores Moscow, New York, London and Seoul.
In the 12 months to the end of last August sales at IKEA Ireland, comprising of its store in Ballymun and its order and collection point at Carrickmines, South Dublin, jumped by 10% to €166.7million – €3.2million a week.
The 3.6 million visitors to the Ballymun store in 2017 represented a 36% increase on the previous 12 months. A further 400,000 people passed through the order and collection point.
The spokeswoman added: “Irish customers’ favourite time to visit IKEA is at the weekend, where the highest daily footfall is recorded.” in
