Mystery solved ..it’s Malkovich

Piers plays and doesn’t like the result AT last, the mysterious case of the missing Poirot is solved.

Five years after David Suchet quit the role, John Malkovich, 64, below, is to play the Belgian detective in a BBC adaption of Agatha Christie’s The ABC Murders.

Due to start filming in June, the Hollywood actor’s Hercule Poirot will be assisted by Harry Potter star Rupert Grint as Inspector Crome, Andrew Buchan of Broadchurc­h as Franklin Clarke and Tara Fitzgerald as Lady Hermione Clarke. The drama is set in the 1930s, when a serial killer known only as ABC is on the loose.

First the killer strikes in Andover, then Bexhill. As the murder count rises, the only clue is The ABC Railway Guide left at each crime scene. The three-parter marks the return of Poirot to Dan has laugh at ‘idiot’ Piers TV. Suchet,72, played the role for 25 years before bowing out in 2013

James Prichard, of Agatha Christie Limited, said: “The ABC Murders is one of my great grandmothe­r’s most unsettling and intense stories.

“I am humbled by the quality of cast we have lined up for the show.”

Writer Sarah Phelps, who also adapted Christie’s Ordeal By Innocence, said: “The ABC Murders is a brutal story of violence and lies.”

The whodunnit is expected to feature in the BBC festive schedules.
