A BOY aged 13 appeared at a special court sitting last night charged with the murder of schoolgirl Anastasia Kriegel.

The 14-year-old’s naked body was found last week in a derelict farmhouse in Lucan, South Dublin, three days after she was reported missing.

The accused, who cannot be named due to his age, was remanded in custody to appear again on June 1.

Giving evidence of his arrest, a garda said: “In reply to that charge after caution, he had nothing to say.”

A BOY of 13 has been charged with the murder of schoolgirl Anastasia Kriegel.

The teen’s parents sat beside him as he appeared before a special late sitting of Dublin Children’s Court last night.

Judge John O’connor warned any attempt to identify the boy on social media will result in prosecution.

The accused cannot be named because he is a juvenile. There was no indication of how he will plead.

The teen was charged with Anastasia’s murder at Glenwood House, Laraghcon, Lucan, South Dublin, on May 14, the day she was reported missing.

The naked body of Anastasia, known as Ana, was found in a disused farmhouse on May 17.

She had been beaten to death.

The 14-year-old left her home at Newtown Park at about 5pm to go to the nearby St Catherine’s Park.

However, she did not return home and in the following hours when her parents were unable to contact her phone they alerted gardai.

A postmortem established she had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Two boys were arrested on Thursday and held under Section Four of the Criminal Justice Act at separate Garda stations in Dublin and interviewed by specialist child interviewers.

Gardai only revealed the arrests yesterday morning over fears around public anger about the killing.

The second juvenile arrested during the investigation has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Last night, evidence of arrest, charge and caution was given by Garda Inspector Mark O’neill.

The teen’s mother sat beside him during the brief hearing. His father sat to his right on the lawyers’ desk beside defence solicitor Donough Molloy.

Insp O’neill told the court the boy was arrested at 4.01pm yesterday at Clondalkin Garda station and he was charged at 4.39pm. Inspector O’neill said: “In reply to that charge after caution, he had nothing to say,”

Judge O’connor said he did not have jurisdiction to grant bail due to the nature of the charge.

After it was confirmed there was a place available at the Oberstown Detention Centre he remanded the boy in custody to appear again on June 1.
