This Car runs like a dream

-

TURLOUGH O’BRIEN could not have dreamed things would go so well for Carlow when he went to sleep on Saturday night.

To score 2-14 against Kildare and not kick a single wide... I can’t remember anything like that happening before. It was brilliant.

Carlow lost Brendan Murphy to America and never moaned, they just got on with it and exuded positivity, which was richly rewarded.

It just shows that when management set up and spirit is rightly allied with good coaching, anything is possible.

Where do Kildare go from this, their 12th successive loss? Outside of Mayo, the Lilywhites gave Dublin their biggest test last year.

Now they must go to Derry, who played well at times against Donegal and should be better again the next day. It’s a tough one and their season could well be in tatters come Saturday week.

Fair play to Laois for keeping their winning run going. They really seem to be buying into John Sugrue while Westmeath look to be sinking fast, with a difficult qualifier tie against Armagh to come.

The word is that Dublin are in better fettle at this time of year than ever before and it showed in an irresistible first quarter against Wicklow.

It doesn’t augur well for the rest that these boys mean business so early.
