I can’t see Woods for the trees

TIGER ADMITS LONG WAIT FOR A WIN HAS SEEMED A LIFETIME

- BY NEIL MCLEMAN

TIGER WOODS admitted his recent struggles felt like “20 years” as he approaches a decade since his last Major triumph.

Jack Nicklaus

(right) claimed this week that the former world No.1 needs to learn to win again.

Woods’ last won on the

PGA Tour in 2013 and lifted his 14th Major at the 2008 US Open at Torrey Pines.

The world No.83 spent Monday practicing at Shinnecock Hills where next month’s US Open will be staged.

And speaking before today’s Memorial Tournament, Woods admitted: “The last couple of years have felt like a very long time. I have not felt very well or very good in the last few years and it seemed like, a second seemed like 24 hours. I was struggling for a while. The last couple years, that definitely felt a little more like 10, 20 years.”

Woods has won Nicklaus’ tournament in Ohio five times but he also shot the highest score of his pro career at Muirfield Village with an 85 in the third round on his last appearance in 2015. In last place, he went out on his own for Sunday’s final round. “I didn’t want anyone to watch me play,” he joked yesterday.

Eight of the world’s top 10 tee up in the event with Forth Worth Invitational winner Justin Rose able overtake to Justin Thomas as world No.1 with another victory.

Rory Mcilroy, who won at Bay Hill in March, is up to world No.6 after his runnerup finish at the BMW PGA.

He said: “I’ve earned more world ranking points than anyone this year so that’s a positive.

“I think I’ve played in four final groups, but it’s all going in the right direction.”
