- BY EDEL HUGHES

A LUCKY punter will celebrate today’s Bank Holiday as a multimillionaire after scooping the jackpot in Saturday night’s Lotto.

The Quick Pick ticket worth €4,325,656 was sold at Whitty’s Mace store in Caherdavin, Co Limerick.

Thrilled owner DJ Whitty said: “I cannot believe it. When the call came through last night [Saturday] I was in shock. This is the second Lotto jackpotwinning ticket we’ve sold in our 21 years in business here.

“It is fantastic for Caherdavin and there’s a great buzz around the town this morning.

“I’ve no idea who the winner is but we hope it is one of our local customers.”

Mr Whitty added the news spread so fast it sparked a “mad rush” of people going into the store to check if they were the lucky winner.

The National Lottery appealed to all players in The Treaty County to check their tickets to see if they have hit the jackpot.

The winning numbers were 1, 7, 10, 17, 35 and 37 with the bonus 63.

Two other players will also be celebrating after landing €106,121 each for matching five numbers plus the bonus. They were bought in Louth and Leitrim.

The Quick Pick entries were sold at Mulvey’s House of Gifts, Main Street, Carrick-on-shannon, and at Lidl on the Dublin Road in Ardee.

It’s the first win at one of the German discount store’s outlets since they began selling tickets.

National Lottery chief Dermot Griffin said: “What a June Bank Holiday weekend it has been for our players with the National Lottery giving away more than €6million.

“This latest €4.3million Lotto jackpot win is our fifth of 2018. We are asking all of our Limerick players to check their tickets and, if they are the lucky ticketholder, sign the back of the ticket and keep it safe and contact the National Lottery prize claims team on 01 836 4444.

“We are open from 9.15am on Tuesday and we will make arrangements for you to collect your prize.”

In 2005, Limerick mum-of-six Dolores Mcnamara made history when she scooped €115million on Euromillions.

A LUCKY Lotto player woke up more than €4million richer yesterday morning.

The winning ticket was sold in a Co Limerick Mace store owned by DJ Whitty.

It’s definitely a win for the record books.
