GARDAI SET FOR ARRESTS OVER CAMERON MURDER

Suspects on verge of being lifted after tragic teen’s funeral

GARDAI are on the verge of making arrests over the horrific murder of Cameron Reilly.

Hundreds of mourners will gather for the funeral of the 18-year-old student in Dunleer, Co Louth, this morning.

And as his parents and friends struggle to cope with his brutal death, it emerged a young woman key to the investigat­ion attended a candlelit vigil in his memory last week.

It is understood she and her boyfriend, along with a second young woman, were at the scene at Shamrock Hill in Dunleer when the Dundalk IT student was beaten and strangled in a field.

His body was found at 8am on May 26. A source said: “It is not yet known yet if this woman had any involvemen­t in the murder, but gardai have placed her at the scene.

“It looks at the moment that if and when this gets to court, it won’t end up as a murder case but manslaught­er.

Officers are expected arrests in the coming days.

The source added: “This will probably take place after the funeral, as normally happens.

“It’s a way of letting the dust settle after a tragedy like this.

“There was amazement that this young woman went to the candlelit vigil for Cameron last week, even though it was widely known she was in thatfield at the time and knows what happened.”

Gardai also found Cameron’s passport during extensive searches and are confident of locating his mobile, an to make Apple iphone8, taken after his death. Fire crews were drafted in to drain millions of gallons of water from a reservoir late last week in a bid to find the handset.

Several appeals have been made by gardai and community leaders for young people to come forward with informatio­n about the murder, amid claims some have been warned not to talk.
