Clinton hails Ireland for its diversity

- BY TREVOR QUINN

Bill Clinton FORMER US President Bill Clinton has praised Ireland’s diversity, insisting an inclusive society is key to peace and prosperity.

He spoke out while promoting a thriller he penned with best-selling author James Patterson, titled The President Is Missing.

The 71-year-old said he co-wrote the book as it was “important to address deep-seated cynicism, in some cases deserved and sometimes exaggerated, about people in public life”.

Speaking on RTE Radio 1’s The Ryan Tubridy Show, he claimed diversity was a boon to any country.

He explained: “Look at Ireland. You’ve got a Taoiseach who’s gay and half-indian and you’re still Ireland, right. It’s still Ireland.

“So the trick is how to do that on a large scale all around the world.”

Perhaps referencing his own country, he added: “People who want authoritarian leaders have always sought to abolish the distinction between fact, fiction and truth and lies.

“That’s part of the strategy.” Patrick O’donnell’s coffin is carried in Co Cork yesterday and friends. He didn’t have a bad word to say about anyone. All he wanted was to enjoy his life.”

He was laid to rest at St Dominic’s cemetery in Glanworth

On Sunday Michael Dineen, of Ardmhuilanne, Mitchelstown, Co Cork, appeared before a special sitting of Mallow District Court.

The 27-year-old made no reply to the charge when it was put to him and was remanded in custody.
