Gossamer to get off the mark

- BY PETER O’HEHIR

GOSSAMER WINGS must be fancied to get off the mark in the Irish Stallion Farms 2-Y-0 Fillies Maiden in Navan today.

The Ballydoyle filly, very green on her debut at the Curragh, ran a cracker at headquarters in her second start, when finishing a creditable third behind better-fancied,

Royal Ascot-bound stable-companion Just Wondering.

And, with further improvement expected, this $500,000 yearling purchase should have the class to cope with the drop to five furlongs and is expected to confirm Curragh form with Laura Bullion and Fantasy.

Donnacha O’brien, who will be on board Gossamer Wings, looks set for a profitable visit to the Trainer Joseph O’brien

County Meath venue, with obvious prospects on his four mounts for in-form brother Joseph, who has done a remarkable job with Rockfish, bidding for his fifth win in his last six starts under top-weight of 10-5 in today’s finale.

Now 27lb higher than when starting his winning sequence, he won in Gowran Park on Monday and, despite his burden, will be tough to beat.

Arthurian Fame, runner-up in his two starts, more recently when outstayed by Carlo Biraghi at the Curragh, should beat his two rivals in the Hospitality Packages At Navan Maiden while Pedisnap, which failed by a half-length to catch Texas Radio in Gowran on Monday, appeals in the 45-65 one-mile handicap.
