32 a magic number for Kerry unity

-

THEY may not have been playing top class opposition, but you’d have to be impressed by Kerry and Galway’s performances.

To amass 0-32 was an extraordinary feat for Kerry, particularly with seven debutants.

It’s the first time since Eamonn Fitzmaurice took over that he’s made sweeping changes and employing Tadhg Morley and Peter Crowley in the full-back line seemed to help, while Gavin

White’s (above) introduction was significant. I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t in there before now given his form with Dr Crokes.

They have David Moran and Jack Barry driving them on from midfield and they’ve always had the forwards, probably even more so now, and tons of experience off the bench.

It all looks very bright for Kerry, and not just for 2018, but I expected much more from Clare.

They’ve been around, they’re settled and experienced and shouldn’t have been losing by 22 points.

Galway also ran up a big tally – 4-24 – and could have had more.

Damien Comer had a presence closer to goal and Ian Burke brings a new dimension to the forward line. Shane Walsh had his best game in a while and Michael Daly and Danny Cummins were back in action too.

It’d be great to see Galway play a more offensive high line and be brave and use that Galway attacking flair that we all want to see.

Like Clare, I expected Sligo to be more competitive but Kevin Walsh got his selection spot on this time having got away with it against Mayo.

I expect a blistering Connacht final when they meet Roscommon.
