Three weeks of violence and mayhem

THE early morning shooting was the latest violent death in a bloody three weeks.

In that time, seven people have been killed – including an innocent school girl and a Filipino student.

May 13: Leixlip, Co Kildare, man Gearoid Gaffney, 45, known to friends as “Doie” was brutally stabbed on Vassal

Road in Denmark Hill in Brixton, South London.

He died over a week later in the city’s Kings Hospital.

May 14: Anastasia (Ana) Kriegel, 14, was reported missing by her parents in Leixlip.

Three days later her naked body was discovered 1km from a park where she was last seen in Lucan, South Dublin. A 13-year-old boy has been charged with her murder.

May 21: The body of tragic Jastine Valdez was discovered on Monday, May 21, two days after she was reported missing. The 24-year-old was abducted by crazed killer Mark Hennessy after getting off the bus near her home in Enniskerry. He strangled her and dumped the body before being shot dead by gardai.

May 23: Father-of-one Robert Elston, 33, dies after being stabbed in Cahersivee­n, Co Kerry. Blake Sweeney, 20, is charged with murder.

May 26: Cameron Reilly, 18, was beaten and strangled after up to 20 youths gathered in a field in the Shamrock Hill area of Dunleer, Co Louth.

It is understood an earlier row had broken out outside a chipper in the village.

It is believed gardai are now on the verge of making arrests.

June 1: Patrick O’donnell, 36, died following an assault at Willie Andies pub in Mitchelsto­wn, Cork.

Michael Dineen appeared before a court on Sunday charged with murder.

June 5: Bobby Messett dies after a gunman enters Bray Boxing Club in Wicklow and opens fire.

Two others, including the father of boxing champ Katie Taylor, were injured.
