LUCKY PUNTER BAGS LOTTO JACKPOT

- BY WILLIAM DUNNE

One of the two winners of last week’s €4.3million Lotto jackpot kept the lucky ticket in a sandwich bag for five days.

The Limerick man and his female pal became instant millionaires following last Saturday’s draw.

But he was so worried something would happen to the ticket he put it in a plastic zip-lock bag and kept it in his pocket.

He said: “I was so nervous about anything happening to the ticket. I didn’t sleep a wink on Saturday night after we found out we won.

“I kept checking the ticket by my bedside locker. The next morning, I put it in a plastic ziplock bag and kept it in my pocket wherever I went, whether to work or the shops.

“In my mind this was a great way to be doubly sure nothing could happen to the ticket before we got the chance to go to Dublin to claim.”

The man travelled up yesterday morning to collect his winnings at Lotto HQ alongside his friend.

She said: “Be careful what you dream about as you never know, it just might come true. I’ve dreamed about this a lot over the years but never in my wildest imagination did I think it would become a reality.” National Lottery chief Dermot Griffin congratulated the anonymous duo on their big win. He said: “What a week it has been for the National Lottery with back-to-back Lotto and Euromillions Jackpot wins. “Dreams do come true and we are delighted for the two Limerick winners.”
